From Management: La Mariana Tiki Bar & Restaurant is located at the front of Keehi Lagoon in Honolulu. Founded nearly six decades ago, La Mariana stands to serve as a historic reminder of the Hawaii from days of old. The establishment has become a Hawaiiana rich museum, curating iconic decorative items from some of the most famous tiki-themed bars in history. There are vintage tikis from the Sheraton’s Kon Tiki Room, koa wood tables from (the original) Don The Beachcomber, and many other items a sharp eye for all things tiki will recognize. Let’s not forget the tropical beverage menu which includes La Mariana’s famous mai tais and zombies. La Mariana is the last original tiki bar on Oahu and one of the few truly authentic tiki bars in the world.

Our Review:

Many travelers conjure up images of “authentic” tiki bars lining the sand dusted sidewalks of Honolulu. They expect every other nightlife establishment to hang rope-harnessed sea glass and swollen pufferfish from their rafters while 50’s surf tunes serve as the soundtrack. Sure there are more than a fair share of bars displaying carved likenesses of Lono, Ku, and the lot but authentic tiki bar status they cannot claim. La Mariana however, can be considered nothing but. It’s Keehi Lagoon location could not be better, collecting local salty dogs and companions from their marina docked homes while the tourist component is kept at a level to keep things bustling on a weekend evening but never crossing into kitsch “attraction” territory. That said, it is featured regularly on the Magnum P.I. reboot so there are a few fans snapping rapid fire photos for Instagram.

La Mariana is part museum, part legend, and all tiki – what more could you ask for from a Honolulu seaside bar?
