Kitsch has its place in Waikiki. Travelers come from all over the world and are ready for a night on the town with their Nordstrom Rack aloha shirts and flowered dresses while still wearing the leis they received upon arrival at HNL. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this. It’s all about having fun and leaving the responsibilities of home back at the departure gate from whence one came. Lava Tube (part of the Aqua Ohia hotel) is where you go to make that happen, complete with gigantic styrofoam tikis and lava rock with South Pacific murals decorating the walls within.
While also a restaurant focusing on Hawaiian fare, we recognize Lava Tube as one of Waikiki’s go-to watering holes. The drink menu is fun and much more affordable than what you find at most other places, such as the Hideout at Lay Low across the road. At Lava Tube you can kick back without pretension, enjoy rum out of a hollowed out pineapple, and mingle with fellow visitors to make fond memories out of your time in Hawaii.
