Just outside of Haleiwa is the sleepy country town of Waialua. When you turn off of Kamehameha onto Waialua Beach Road you’ll catch a distinctive whiff for what this quaint island community is all about – sugar. Well, sugar and coffee. The old sugar mill still stands and hosts hundreds of visitors per day in search of souvenirs, shave ice, chocolate derived from locally grown cacao, coffee, and more. But the industrial park is also a boutique commercial hotbed and now home to a soap factory, surf shops, and world famous surfboard shaper studios. And at the very least the Old Waialua Sugar Mill is one of the most photogenic historical destinations on the entire island.
