Located on the windward side, Sandy Beach boasts the best body surfing wave for intermediate and advanced riders. The shore-breaking wave is also a visual spectacle for sunbathers and photographers alike. In addition, the strong waves bring sea glass and bits of coral on to the sand for picking. It is common for beachcombers to search for heart-shaped coral and place them with the hundreds of others perched along the rocky volcanic shelf that bookends the far right side of the beach. There isn’t much for amenities in the area, but there are one or two food trucks parked near the beach park entrance at Kalaniana’ole Highway. However, we recommend bringing your own water and snacks because on any given day there may not be any trucks on site. Without recourse heat will wear you out fast and you’ll have no place to walk for refreshments. There is a bus stop across the road though, so TheBus is indeed a convenient option for those without a vehicle. Other highlights include the colorful memorial murals that decorate the restroom and outdoor shower area.
Sandy Beach is located within walking distance from legendary From Here to Eternity Beach and Halona blowhole. We suggest that you bundle these attractions into a single day if you have limited time on the island.
