Hurley Pro Sunset Beach Surf Competition

Annual World Surf League competition at world famous Sunset Beach Oahu

Sunset Beach Surf Competition

Sunset Beach on the North Shore may be best known by some for its crooked palm tree, but the rest of the planet knows it for being a world-class surf break. The World Surf League (WSL) understands this too, which is why they hold a World Championship Tour event here in February. The Hurley Pro Sunset Beach is not as fun to watch as the Billabong Pro Pipeline event – the jewel of the North Shore surf contests – but it’s still a must-see for anyone on the island during the event’s waiting period. Big names from the world of professional surfing (Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Gabriel Medina, etc.) show up to battle it out against both the elite and up-and-comers, and when the waves are big it’s a blast to witness.
